WHAT IS DISC HERNIATION?

Disc Herniation is a common degenerative spine condition that affects many individuals around middle age and later (40+), also known as Slipped Disc.

Disc Herniation occurs when the outer shell (Annulus Fibrosus) of an Intervertebral Disc becomes so weak that it cracks or tears and allows the disc’s inner gelatinous contents (Nucleus Pulposus) to escape.

This Nucleus Pulposus can irritate nearby nerves which results in pain, numbness or weakness in an armor leg. On the other hand, many people experience no symptoms from a herniated disk. Most people who have Disc Herniation do not require open surgery to correct the problem.

El-Adsorb™ is a Minimally Invasive Procedure introduced for the treatment of Herniated Disc.

It involves injection of ABSOLUTE GEL – A Chemonucleolytic agent that causes dehydration of Nucleus Pulposus, resulting thus in retraction of intervertebral disc herniation by simultaneously depositioning of a Prosthesis at the injection site.

This viscous Radiopaque Solution holds the alcohol and does not let it slip out off herniated disc, and the same alcohol causes drainage of Hernia, which releases pressure from the compressed nerve.

It is a minimal invasive procedure performed on an out-patient basis whereby the patient will go home the same day of the procedure with only a small bandage on their back.

ABSOLUTE GEL

Absolute Gel is a Soft Flexible Implant, which is injected to the disc with a fine spinal needle in nucleus pulposus for the treatment of Herniated Disc.It comprises of ethanol with cellulose derivatives and nanoparticles of tungsten (radiopaque component) to form a radiopaque implantable medical device.

In other words, Absolute Gel – A liquid gel is converted into a Flexible Permanent Implant after coming in contact with water contact of nucleus pulposus, that causes Dehydration of Nucleus Pulposus which leads to retraction of herniated disc and thus releases pressure from the pinched nerve.

It has a unique property to Gelification as it comes in contact with water content of nucleus pulposus.

Absolute Gel injection is done with local anaesthesia, and never requires General Anaesthesia (GA). Therefore, risks and complications of GA can be avoided.

 

PRESENTATION AND DOSAGE

Absolute Gel Kit:

  • 3.0 ml sterile vial with Absolute Gel
  • Sterile syringes of 1.0 ml.
  • Sterile 19G 1.5 inch high flow needle for extraction of Absolute Gel
  • Sterile 18G and 20G Spinal Needles
  • IFU

Dosage:

The quantity of ABSOLUTE GEL injected per disc varies between 0.2 and 0.8ml, according to the dimension of the disc and extent of the hernia. A syringe of 1ml is provided in the kit so that any of this injection volumes is possible. It is recommended to use:

  • 0.2 ml for cervical discs
  • 0.3 to 0.5 ml for thoracic disc
  • 0.6 to 0.8 ml for lumbar disc

A single Kit allows possibly intervening on 3 discs (A syringe by disc).
